Week 10: 7/12/17
This week we began to start the editing process for our
film. We watched back all the footage we had re-filmed and decided whether we
wanted the sections defined with the ‘characters’ or whether we wanted it
switching from person to person. We decided we wanted some logical order to it,
however we wanted the shot of Kizzy moving the books to be our linking shots.
We watched the footage, and took the moments that we liked out of all the
clips. We took as little of the footage as possible that still portrayed what
we wanted it to say. We done this so the film stayed as a short film, rather
than a longer screendance film.
We also decided the sounds for the piece. We liked the
emergency sounds and the earthquake sounds that Anna put on the film a couple
of weeks ago. It added something contrasting that seemed to enhance the
movement. We watched the clips and decided what clips need what sound. The
sirens came on our slow floor movement in the wedding dresses. This really
worked as the two things shouldn’t work together, however it added depth to the
clip and brought out the movement.
For Christie’s movement, we wanted something quite soft and
not as full on as the sirens or earthquake sounds. Anna found this sound, which
sounded like wind chimes. This worked really well as her movement looked like
it was hitting the chimes and making them make the noise. The movement itself
was very flowing and quite full on (as in it was filling the whole shot) so the
subtlety of the sounds complemented it well.
We like the mix of diegetic, non-diegetic and music sounds
within the piece. The footage and the ‘Characters’ it is rather random, which
actually works quite well. I am looking forward to next week to finish the
editing process ready for the showing.
